Hey everyone! 👋

My name is Ryan.

Thanks for subscribing to my weekly newsletter dedicated to all things scam-related. I know, I know… "scams" isn't exactly the most uplifting topic, but trust me, there's a method to my madness (and hopefully some laughs along the way!).

I’m a millennial with over 12 years of experience working in Information Security (aka cyber). If there's one thing I've learned, it's that awareness is our greatest weapon against the threats of scammers, schemers, and con artists. My goal is to make this newsletter your go-to source for staying ahead of the curve and protecting yourself and your loved ones.

So, why did I decide to dedicate my time to curating a newsletter about scams? Well, a few reasons, actually.

First off, let's talk about AI 🤖. This incredible technology has the potential to revolutionize our lives, but it also has a dark side. AI is going to be a scammer's best friend, enabling them to create even more convincing and sophisticated scams at an alarming rate. We need to be prepared!

And then there's crypto. It's here to stay, and while it presents amazing opportunities, it's also become a breeding ground for scammers. From phishing attacks and rug pulls (pump-and-dumps) to shady "shillcoins" that promise the moon 🚀 but deliver a crater-sized hole in your wallet, it's a minefield out there. I want to help those new to the crypto space navigate these dangers and avoid getting taken advantage of.

What really solidified my decision to start this newsletter, though, was the following Peter McCormack Show podcast I listened to.

It featured a recording of a scammer trying to "vishing" (voice phishing) someone. The potential victim realized what was happening and started asking the scammer some tough questions. The scammer's response? Complete lack of remorse. They blamed their victims for being "technically illiterate" and felt totally justified in their actions. It was chilling. Oh - and the scammer isn’t even a day older than 18 years old.

That's when it really hit me: we're up against some truly bad actors, and staying informed is our best defense. But who has the time to constantly scour the internet for the latest scam alerts? It's exhausting and, frankly, pretty depressing. That's where this newsletter comes in.

Every week, I’ll curate and deliver the following digestible content right to your inbox:

  1. Summaries of the top scam news/stories that you need to know 🚨

  2. Curated list of other important headlines and/or social media posts related to scams 📰

  3. YouTube videos 🖥️, podcasts 🎙️, documentaries 🎬, etc., about scams to watch, listen, and learn from

  4. Roundup of new content from the Scambaiter community 🎣

  5. Memes related to scams that will make you laugh 😃 (this newsletter can’t be all doom and gloom)

Think of it as your weekly scam-fighting toolkit, packed with information and entertainment to help you stay ahead of the curve.

So, buckle up, and let's fight back against the scammers together! 💪
